The end of this year is almost upon us and now we can take a look back at what where the most valuable domains in 2018, as well as make some predictions about domain industry in 2019.
First, we must note that SEO analysts use search engine data to mark search-related keywords as valuable. Making them into valuable will produce domain names with low-to-medium prices ranging from 50 or 100 and up to 3000 dollars, with only a very small percent of these domains made into the most valuable domain names.
The most valuable domains for year 2018 where:
- LasVegas .COM – $90 million (2005-2040)
- CarInsurance .COM– $49.7 million (2010)
- Insurance .COM – $35.6 million (2010)
- Vacationrentals .COM – $35 million (2007)
- Privatejet .COM – $30.1 million (2012)
- Internet .COM – $18 million (2009)
- Insure .COM – $16 million (2009)
- Sex .COM – $13 million (2010)
- Hotels .COM – $11 million (2001)
- Fund .COM – $9.9 million (2008)
- Porn .COM – 9.5 million (2007)
- Fb .COM – $8.5 million (2010)
Yes, we can note these are all generic words that are used as search keywords with search engines. The fact that they are .COM domains confirm that western countries still love and value this domain extension the most.
Why do they hold such high value? The answer is organic search. These domain names are keyword domains, and additionally, I would imagine previous owners invested time and effort to rank these domain names high with search engines. That leads to these domains receiving such tremendous organic traffic from average internet users with search engines that they are bound to make a huge profit for companies in that business niche or industry. Profit leads to value, value leads to profit. A very perpetual engine.
Same will happen in the new year 2019, so if you want to make a profit from registering domain names I would recommend keeping your hand on the internet pulse, better yet, look closely at search statistic with Google and other search engines.
So, these were the most valuable domains in 2018, but ccTLD are becoming more and more relevant and in 2019 we could expect this shift becoming even more pronounced. Regional websites with a local database for products and wares are better and in the UK, Germany, China, Russia, India, and Canada country code domains are more widely used than .COM domains.
I would digress and acknowledge that .COM domains will hold the biggest resale value in 2019 too, but I would imagine that the total number of all ccTLD domain registrations surpasses total .COM registrations. The ccTLD domains will become even more relevant as the US economy is becoming less open with new US tariffs toward different countries emerging every day.
Point is even the pigeons now know that ccTLD domain is a better choice for local presence and commerce and that is my main prediction for 2019. Domain name industry in 2019 will be moving toward country code and/or regional domain extensions, at least in total domain registration numbers.
