RegistryPro, the operator of the .PRO top-level domain (TLD), announced today it reached an agreement with ICANN that allows for the release and allocation of one-, two- and three-character names. The availability of these several thousand names—like i.pro, pr.pro and 777.pro—is expected to generate significant interest from registrants all over the world.
\"We\'re excited to make these unique .PRO domains available to business and service professionals worldwide,\" said Catherine Sigmar, general manager of RegistryPro. \"We\'ve received over 4,000 emails about 1-, 2- and 3-character .PRO names. Two names in particular have generated over 500 emails on their own. This contract amendment allows RegistryPro to answer this tremendous demand in the coming months.\"
New business owners who want to distinguish themselves on the Internet, established professional organizations and multinational corporations with household names have all expressed interest in these short, easy-to-remember domain names.
Domains with fewer than four characters have been available in other gTLDs for several years and are highly sought after. .PRO\'s allocation and release proposal was approved in the ICANN Board of Directors during the 35th ICANN International meeting in Sydney, Australia.
