Today October 7, 2008, the official registry of INFO domain name Afilias has released a brand-new “Anti-Abuse Policy” in an attempt to make the .INFO domain safer for the Internet users.
Both webmasters and visitors are aware that large amounts of scam and phishing comes through the .INFO based domain names. Why is that? Mainly because INFO domains are cheap and easily available. Meanwhile, many really worthy sites are being developed on INFOs. Somebody has to protect the genuine webmasters.
The official statement says that: “The primary goal of the policy is to improve the means available to Afilias to work with registrars to suspend domains that violate this (Anti abuse) policy. This policy will go into power on November 6, 2008 and will help Afilias to better address the problems caused by criminals who use sophisticated means to victimize the public and misuse Internet domain names.”
I, being an owner of several non-scam INFO based sites, am very happy about Afilias doing something about improving the INFO web-space. This blog will follow the developments around this new Anti-abuse policy.
